Phagocytosis of Staphylococcus aureus by human neutrophils in the presence of normal human serum. Bacteria that constitutively express intracellular GFP (green fluorescent protein) were mixed with isolated neutrophils and 10% serum. This image is one timepoint (15 minutes) of a series of images taken during the phagocytosis process in an 8-well chamber mounted onto a Leitz confocal microscope. Images were taken in brightfield and GFP fluorescence setting and superimposed.
